The ECHR judgment of November 26, 2019 in the case of Savenko (Limonov) v. Russia (application No. 29088/08).
In 2008, the applicant was assisted in preparing the application. Subsequently, the application was communicated to the Russian Federation.
The case has successfully examined the application about the institution of defamation proceedings against the applicant, which violated his right to freedom of expression. The case has violated the requirements of Article 10 of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms.
In his application, the applicant complained that the institution of defamation proceedings against him violated his right to freedom of expression.
On November 26, 2019, in an application lodged by the applicant, the Court unanimously ruled that in the present case the Government violated the requirements of Article 10 of the Convention (the right to freedom of expression) and ordered the respondent Government to pay the applicant EUR 7,800 in compensation non-pecuniary damage and 11,700 euros in respect of pecuniary damage.
