ECHR ruling of July 10, 2018 in the case of Vasilevsky and Bogdanov (Vasilevskiy and Bogdanov) v. Russia (application N 52241/14).

The case was successfully examined by the applicants' complaint that they had not been provided with adequate compensation for the unlawful detention, even though the first applicant spent 472 days in detention beyond a certain period, the second applicant - 119 days. The case has violated the requirements of Article 5 § 5 of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms (the right to liberty and security of person).

In 2014, complainants were assisted in preparing a application. Subsequently, the complaint was communicated to the Russian Federation.

In their application, the applicants complained that they had not been provided with adequate compensation for their unlawful detention, despite the fact that the first applicant spent 472 days in detention beyond a certain period, the second applicant - 119 days.

On 10 July 2018, the European Court unanimously ruled that in the present case the authorities violated the requirement of Article 5 § 5 of the Convention (the right to liberty and security of person). The European Court ordered the respondent Government to pay each of the applicants 4,000 euros in compensation. The partly dissenting opinion was expressed by the judge of the European Court of Human Rights George A. Sergides (elected from Cyprus).
