The case successfully examined the complaint of the applicant, who was previously an employee of the Federal Security Service, about the inhuman conditions of detention, he also claimed that he did not have an effective remedy in this regard. The applicant also complained that sending him to a colony located 1,800 km away from his home violated Article 8 of the Convention. The case has violated the requirements of Article 3 of the Convention (prohibition of torture), Article 13 of the Convention (the right to an effective remedy), Article 8 of the Convention (the right to respect for private and family life).
In 2005, the complainant was assisted in preparing an application. Subsequently, the application was communicated to the Russian Federation.

On April 3, 2018, the European Court unanimously ruled that in the present case the authorities violated the requirement of Article 3 of the Convention (prohibition of torture), Article 13 of the Convention (right to an effective remedy), Article 8 of the Convention (right to respect private and family life). The claimant did not submit a claim for any fair compensation.
