The case successfully examined the complaint of the complainant that he had been ill-treated by the police officers and prisoners acting on their instructions, that no effective investigation had been conducted into his complaints and that the confession obtained as a result of the ill-treatment was used as evidence to finding him guilty. The case has violated the requirements of Article 3 of the Convention (prohibition of torture) in its substantive and procedural aspects, paragraph 1 of Article 6 of the Convention (the right to a fair trial).
In 2006, the complainant was assisted in preparing a application. Subsequently, the application was communicated to the Russian Federation.

On May 15, 2018, the European Court unanimously ruled that in this case the authorities violated the requirements of Article 3 of the Convention (prohibition of torture) in its substantive and procedural aspects, the requirement of Article 6 § 1 of the Convention (right to a fair trial) , and ordered the respondent State to pay the applicant 50,000 euros in respect of non-pecuniary damage.
